The Advantage of Working Out of the Office
There are a lot of people out there whose careers benefit from spending time working outside of the office. The title of “REALTOR” is one of these positions that gives you a great reason to work outside of the office – at least a few times a week.
Besides the obvious open house scenario or listing presentation, another major reason for a REALTOR to work outside of the office is networking. Try setting aside 3 mornings a week where you specifically spend at least 2 hours at the local Starbucks, Panera, or similarly-styled venue. While you do your regular work, listen to other conversations and you may be surprised how often people are talking about the subject of real estate. I know of an agent who got 2 solid leads in one morning with this technique.
Similarly, you can attract the attention of others in the establishment by what you are doing. For example, wearing your name tag with the company that you work for will be an obvious cue to others as to what you do. This increases that chance of someone striking up a conversation with you about your services.
Of course, you should be sure to get some work done while here. This work can also pique the interest of others inside the shop. For example, you could do your handwritten thank you letters for past clients and people may ask you why you have a stack of thank you cards on your work space.
Other ways to let others know that you are a real estate professional include getting a branded laptop cover or asking the barista to write your name on your cup as “REALTOR (Insert Name)”.
Don’t expect to get leads every day, week, or even month. But you can expect to pick up a few more deals every year if you keep this routine going. A few more deals can mean growing your savings or taking that family vacation you’ve been putting off. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to have your business card on hand and to get their cell phone number.
